DW FACTS
by Dark Watcher |
The Super Cassette Vision was released in 1984 as the successor to Epoch's Cassette Vision. It retailed in Japan for around
15,000 Yen. The system was also manufactured and distributed for Europe (particularly France) by a company called ITMC. In
Europe it was called the Yeno Super Cassette Vision.
The system sold fairly well initially with about 30 games made for the system in Japan. A large majority of the games were
developed by Epoch.
In France the sales of the Yeno continued fairly well with Epoch exporting 17 games to the European market. Their success
stemmed only from the fact that it would take another year for Nintendo to debut their console to the UK market. Eventually,
Nintendo would release their 8-bit beast, eventually be overshadowing both versions. The Super Cassette
Vision soon disappeared from the market because the competition became too strong.
FACT: In 1985, Epoch decided to release a limited edition version called Lady Cassette Vision. The pink colored
console came bundled with its own carrying case and a game called Milky Princess.

FORMAT, PACKAGING & GENERAL INFO
Interesting facts on software for this system |
Software for the Epoch Super Cassette Vision were packaged in small, cardboard boxes, with most featuring intricate artwork.
The system name is prominently displayed on the front cover to differentiate these titles from the Epoch Cassette Vision, this
system's predecessor (not compatible).
The cartridges themselves came in a number of different colors, all extremely rich and vibrant (i.e. lime green and strawberry
red). They were constructed of a very thick, durable plastic housing. The controller instructions were imprinted on
the back of every cartridge, a clever idea especially if one lost the main manual. Games might also include a plastic
keyboard overlay if the software utilized this interface.
Overall the utilitarian design is simple, yet elegant and entirely effective. |
