As frequent visitors are aware, we typically detail the history
of a particular console in this FACTS section. With the
Xbox One being released on November 22, 2013, we need some
time to craft this article. Also, I plan on purchasing a
Xbox One in the near future to be able to provide direct,
hands-on feedback. For now, all other sections have been
completed so please check them out for interesting information
on the games, models and specs. The following are some
images of the Xbox One as shown at E3. |

MODELS
- INITIAL RELEASE (work in progress) |
Microsoft Xbox One - Standard Edition
In addition to the obligatory power cords and user manual,
the Xbox One base model includes the new Kinect sensor, one
wireless controller (includes 2 AA batteries), a Chat
headset and HDMI cable. The distinctive lime-green
packaging is consistent with previous releases, though this
time taking the predominant role in the carton. |

|
|
Microsoft Xbox One - Day One Edition
This version was limited, as the name applies, to launch day
purchases (or preorders). Technically this is the same
as the standard Xbox One system, but has unique packaging
and a few other goodies. The system comes with a
special controller with "Day One 2013" stenciled into the
front of the controller. There is also an achievement
that is available, which is accessible through the included
card containing an QR code - enter/scan the code, presto -
you get the chievo. The console itself is identical to
the unit listed above. |

|
Microsoft Xbox One - "I Made This" Launch Team 2013 Edition
Special white Xbox One system with light grey highlights awarded to full time associates of the Interactive Entertainment Business division at Microsoft (exact number unknown).
The console features "I Made This" and "Launch Team 2013" on
the front of the system along with a matching two-tone
controller. The included Kinect sensor is surprisingly
the same as those included with the standard edition
(black). Pretty cool nonetheless. |

|
Microsoft Xbox One - Titanfall Limited Edition
Specially
designed Xbox One console given to the team at Respawn
Entertainment, developer of the game. Pretty cool
IMHO, though that controller is a bit busy for my tastes.

Microsoft Xbox One - Bundles
The first
bundle to appear for the Xbox One was the Titanfall version.
This will be the first among many sure to come for the Xbox
One. |

FORMAT, PACKAGING & GENERAL INFO
Interesting facts on software for this system |
Software for the Microsoft Xbox One is distributed on Blu-ray
disc and digital downloadable formats. Backwards
compatibility is not currently supported for either the
original Xbox or Xbox 360 game libraries. The
lime-green packaging is once again utilized, but this time
in the compact Blu-ray disc casing as well as in the DVD
expanded housing. The launch featured 21 total titles,
18 being released being optical disc (Blu-ray) and three
exclusive digital releases.
Titles have mandatory installs (vary in size) to the included hard disc
drive with the disc being required for play.
Thankfully, Microsoft did not pursue their initial plan to
restrict used game play on their system after receiving
considerable backlash from both media and gamers alike. |
